Porgroms and total destruction of Jewish property caused persecuted and defenceless people to seek refuge in the forests and mountains, to wander aimlessly, or to attempt to hide out with pitying Christian friends. None of us dared to show his face in the street, because young irresponsible punks conducted a campaign of terror there.
